Letsile Tebogo Sets New 300m World Best in South Africa

Botswana's Rising Star Shatters Wayde van Niekerk's Record

20-Year-Old Clocks 30.69 at Simbine Curro Classic Shoot-Out

PRETORIA, South Africa (February 18, 2023) – Botswana's Letsile Tebogo has etched his name into the history books by setting a new world best time in the 300 meters. At the Simbine Curro Classic Shoot-Out in South Africa, the 20-year-old clocked an astonishing 30.69 seconds, breaking the previous record of 30.81 held by Wayde van Niekerk since 2017.

Tebogo's blistering performance has sent shockwaves through the athletics world. The Botswana sprinter is now the youngest athlete ever to hold the 300m world record and has become the first African-born athlete to hold the mark.

"I'm so happy and grateful for this opportunity," said Tebogo after his record-breaking run. "I've been working hard for this and it feels amazing to finally achieve it. I hope my performance inspires other young athletes in Africa and around the world."

Tebogo's victory is a testament to his exceptional talent and determination. He now holds both the 200m and 300m world best times and is a strong contender for medals at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
