Cori Bush Reelection Hopes Dashed: Pro-Israel Advocacy Group Delivers a Decisive Blow

Progressive 'Squad' Member Falls to a Funded Adversary

Defeat Highlights Deepening Divides within the Democratic Party

In a stunning turn of events, Representative Cori Bush (D-Mo.) has lost her Democratic primary bid, handing a major victory to a pro-Israel advocacy group. This defeat marks a significant setback for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and raises questions about the future of the so-called "Squad," a group of outspoken lawmakers aligned with Senator Bernie Sanders.

Bush, one of the most vocal proponents of the progressive agenda in the House, was defeated by St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell, who ran a campaign heavily supported by the pro-Israel group AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). AIPAC spent millions of dollars on negative advertising against Bush, painting her as a threat to the U.S.-Israel relationship and a supporter of antisemitism.

This outcome is the latest in a series of setbacks for the Squad, with Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) also losing her primary earlier this year. The defeats highlight the deepening divides within the Democratic Party, as the pro-Israel lobby continues to assert its influence and the progressive wing faces an uphill battle to gain traction in the political mainstream.
