Staff Officers of the French Army

The French National Police is a civilian internal security force. The ranks and titles of the French National Police are as follows:

Officer Ranks

• Commandant (17)
• Lieutenant-colonel (18)
• Colonel (19)

The rank of Commandant is also divided into two sub-ranks:

• Commandant de 1ère classe (17)
• Commandant de 2ème classe (16)

The rank of Colonel is equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army.
