At Least 4 Killed After Tornado Rips Through Iowa Town

Multiple Fatalities and Injuries Reported in Greenfield

Multiple fatalities and injuries have been reported in the small city of Greenfield, Iowa, about 50 miles southwest of Des Moines, after a tornado touched down Tuesday afternoon. The tornado hit Greenfield, a town of about 2,000 people, around 4:30 p.m. local time. At least 20 tornadoes were reported Tuesday, mostly in Iowa. The Greenfield tornado was especially violent, causing multiple injuries and fatalities.

Cleanup Efforts Underway

Residents in Greenfield were already using skid loaders to clear streets Tuesday evening. The tornado left a path of destruction through the town, damaging homes and businesses. The National Weather Service has not yet confirmed the strength of the tornado, but it is believed to have been at least an EF2 tornado.

Officials Respond

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster declaration for Greenfield. The state is sending resources to help with cleanup and recovery efforts. The American Red Cross has also set up a shelter in Greenfield for those who have been displaced by the tornado.
